Why Men Should Buy Sanitary Pads.

So, last week I was out shopping for some refreshing beverages and my favourite Dr Brown’s sanitary pads. Whilst waiting in a queue to pay, this good looking guy walks in. He must have been in his early 20’s, he certainly had the swag and the energy of a man in that age bracket. As I continued to watch this young man he heads towards the ladies section and picks up some Dr Brown’s sanitary pads … well, personally this wasn’t really that strange to me since I felt he must be shopping for someone else. Anyway, as I was waiting for my change I noticed some ladies giggling in the corner. They could have been giggling about something else, right? I wanted to believe that they weren’t giggling about, you know who…

So, here’s me still waiting for my change from the ever so sluggish cashier and guess who walks out, but the young man in question, having already paid. Well, the moment he steps out of the shop it was as if someone released laughing gas. The laughter went viral coupled with endless  giggling and so forth. This really got me wondering why people thought him funny or weird. Does a man need to menstruate to be allowed to purchase a sanitary pad? What about women who purchase condoms?

That was not even the funniest part of the story, this is it … a girl just has to be a girl and I wanted to know where this young man was taking the Dr Brown’s sanitary pad. To my total amazement the answer unfolded right then before my eyes. There was a girl just across the road waiting for him and once he handed the sanitary pad to her, they walked off together. As peculiar as it may sound, I also came across the same guy later that day in another store.  You know my friends always tell me I’m fearless and I guess in this instance I was because with a twinkle in my eye I couldn’t resist going up to him and saying, “Hey, I’m also a big fan of Dr.Brown’s.” He laughed heartily and said, “Nooo, they were for my teenage cousin. She is just like many other girls; ashamed of purchasing sanitary pads in a crowded store.” Well, blow me down with a feather. I was shocked.

I once asked a girl, “If you were asked to purchase either a pack of sanitary pads or a pack of condoms, which would you go for?” She told me blatantly she would go for neither.  “WHAT?” If most girls think this way, then how do they get by?  What do they use?  My mind ran wild at the notion.

Upon investigation, I discovered that in Africa about one in every 10 adolescent girls miss school during their periods and that some even eventually drop out of school because of menstruation related issues (UNESCO 2013). Once I read this, I knew then that what we have at hand is quite a situation. Further, about 65% of women in Nigeria alone are still making use of cotton wool, rags and tissue paper during their periods. This is quite shocking. Not only because of the lack of education or the rate at which these women expose themselves to the dangers of infections, but because of the fact that sanitary pads are so freely available. And yet, so many other educated girls and women want to shy away from the task of going to a shop to purchase a sanitary pad for themselves.

I often ask myself why some of us girls behave this way since nowadays guys walk freely into pharmacies to ask for condoms, even females. So why can’t we do the same for sanitary pads? It is a fact that during the course of their lives every female, having reached a certain maturity, menstruates. A female is expected to menstruate every month unless she is either pregnant, reached menopause or she’s making use of a certain family planning method. So why then can we not embrace this and take proper care of ourselves independently?

I feel it is time to educate our fellow sisters that they should be proud of their bodies and their feminine nature. Help us teach the youth of today that menstruation and femininity is not a curse, let us guide them as to how they can love and take pride in the glory of their true being. Our brothers too must also help out in any way they can, male figures massively influence impressionable teenagers. Together lets build a better, healthier society.

As Judith Butler an American female philosopher and gender theorist puts it:
Masculine and feminine roles are not biologically fixed, but socially constructed.”

Panty Liners and Uses

Despite our wide and far-reaching medical advances, the human body is indeed still a mystery in many regards.  There is no bigger a mystery for teenagers than when they start puberty.  Huge changes to their bodies take place, which can be quite unsettling.  In particular for girls, once puberty starts naturally they will experience an increase in vaginal discharge.  This can be quite upsetting if they are totally unaware of what it is and why it is happening, especially if they have yet to start their periods.  They may feel embarrassed, ashamed, even worried which is why it's important our young girls are educated in all things vaginal ahead of time.

Vaginal discharge can occur at any time throughout the month, but may be linked to a girl’s cycle.  Everyone is different, even down to how much is produced.  What is consistent for everyone though, is that discharge in this area is completely natural and essential.  The secretion of the discharge serves as a regulator for the vagina; it’s not something that can be stopped.  It acts as a kind of self-cleaning mechanism that also acts as an indicator when something is not quite right.  Ordinarily the discharge will be white, creamy or sometimes colourless.  It could also be sticky.  What it shouldn’t be is smelly or green.  Plus, if it is accompanied with itchiness this may indicate an infection and you should visit your doctor.  This area of a female’s body is very sensitive to pH changes so it is important we manage it effectively.

So how can vaginal discharges be managed?
A panty liner is a perfect solution for managing discharge. Worn in the underwear, the panty liner serves to collect the discharge and protect the underwear from being stained.  The panty liner can easily be changed to maintain freshness all day, whatever the time of the month!  Being very small and thin they fit compactly into any sized handbag.  So, just as we carry along a hairbrush, compact mirror or notebook so too we should have our panty liners in our bag on standby.

As a side note, it is really important that we don’t ‘wash’ the vagina.  This area is very sensitive to pH changes and the use of soap or shampoo inside the vaginal walls can easily upset its natural balance.  When this happens thrush may occur which is both itchy and cumbersome when experienced.

What other ways can we use panty liners?
As young girls, it can take a while… sometimes years… to fully get to grips with what is happening to their bodies on a monthly basis as they progress through puberty and beyond.  As they change so too can the discharge and the periods.  This is where panty liners can serve a really useful purpose and should be something every young girl has in her possession.

They are really useful both at the start and at the end of a period.  Many young girls and ladies experience irregular periods.  This can be a nightmare as we go about our regular life, out and about, both in the classroom and the office.  Some periods can also take three days to ‘start’ with a brown, sludgy discharge taking place as a precursor to the main event.  Panty liners, therefore, offer that required protection and confidence to manage this onset.  Such that, if someone does get caught unawares and her period starts she doesn’t have to drop what she’s doing to sort it out.  As a young girl, coping with everything else, her body is throwing at her this small bit of confidence could be massive in any given day.

As you know, many females around the world wear tampons.  Again, panty liners offer protection against any leakage since some days periods can be heavy and some days period can be light.  The presence of the panty liner manages that for you.
It is so important that our girls know what to expect and know how to look after their vaginal health.  Let’s educate them and demystify this area so we can remove any uncertainty and provide knowledge so they can progress through life confidently and meet their daily challenges head on.

Panty Liners and its Uses

At a tender age of 11 a female depending on her nature will most likely experience vaginal discharge, physicians asserts that the vagina serves as a passage between the outside body and the inner reproductive organs. Thus, as the mouth is constantly made moist by saliva, the vagina discharge is absolutely normal, as it is as a result of hormonal changes in a female body. Experts say that the discharges help keep the pH level balance of the vagina intact which ultimately prevents infection from occurring. So a healthy vagina is the one that secretes fluids to cleanse and regulate itself, basically the discharge is a natural lubricant but when not properly managed it becomes harmful.

So how can we manage vaginal discharge? Panty liners are the perfect options for managing discharges. As the name implies it lines the pant to prevent the vaginal discharge from staining the pants and eventually causing irritation. Gynaecologist, Dr.Angela Abiodun, says normal vaginal discharges vary in consistency, as they might be thin and slightly sticky, they can also vary in color some can be clear, cloudy, bloody, whitish or yellowish. So the panty liner comes handy, instead of discharging straight to the pants it goes to the liner which serves as a form of protection. Panty liner aside from being a form of protection for the pants can arguably be said to be more hygienic and comforting.

What other ways can we use the panty liner?

Ideally a panty liner is the same thing with a sanitary pad, but much thinner and lighter as it is not for menstruation. However, a panty liner can be used as a precursor for irregular periods (just in case), when period is almost over.

Panty liners can be used as a leak guard when using tampons for heavy menstruation, as leaks can be very embarrassing, really panty liners rock at keeping giving you extra protection.

Panty liners can be worn during gym and work out sessions as it is normal to sweat during work outs, these sweats can be harmful to the vagina and over time can cause bad odour, the panty liner can come in handy in such situations.

Panty liner can be used to lessen the effect of wearing jeans, leggings, and even G-string; it cushions the female delicate body parts and makes it more comfortable to wear all sorts.
It is important to know that a woman can negatively impact her vagina’s natural pH balance if she uses vaginal douches and fails to properly take care of her vagina. It’s absolutely not advisable to use scented feminine products as it is very harmful.  So watch out for scented sanitary products, allow the vagina to smell like….well the vagina.

Re branding And Its Benefits

Re-branding a business is the process of creating a new look and feel for an already existing brand or product in order to influence its customer’s perception. This may include changing the name, logo or packaging. Re-branding can be a very challenging but extremely rewarding process. It requires careful consideration and planning to achieve the desired goal which is to breathe new life into a brand to attract new customers and increase its popularity. Nigerian Breweries, Oando, and Glo are examples of Nigerian companies that are constantly re-branding and are enjoying wide acceptance among the Nigerian public.

In 1997, tech giant Apple was very close to declaring bankruptcy, but a little less than 17 years later, stock prices have gone up from $6 to $350 and the company keeps shooting in an upward trajectory. Apple did not only rebrand the company’s name, mascot and logo, but also started producing reliable and elegantly designed products, adding artistry to technology; as changing its name from Apple Computer to Apple enabled the company to produce innovative products such as iMac, iPod, iPad, and iPhone. Apple found a way to polish its brand and create a positive experience for its customers.

Until recently, McDonald’s had the image of a chain that served unhealthy meals sold at exorbitant prices; in fact, critics touted McDonald’s meals to be one of the leading causes of obesity. McDonald’s has since rebranded itself, now serving more healthy meals with reduced prices under the slogan “I’m lovin it”. This makeover appears to be having a ripple effect as there has been a reported 5.3 percent rise in sales according to Business Insider.

Wal-Mart, in a 2007 re-branding, replaced its tagline “Always low price” with “Save money. Live better”. This singular act changed the company’s reputation from offering retails at rock bottom prices to suggesting that buying items at low prices will improve the lifestyle of the customer. In 2010, Wal-Mart was the world’s largest public corporation by revenue, according to the Forbes Global 2000 for that year.

Re-branding is generally aimed at re-positioning a brand or company, usually in an attempt to move the brand up market. According to Business Insider, it doesn’t only change the customer’s response to the brand but also helps the brand achieve its goals. It’s a careful strategy; often times subtle and methodical, and may involve both re-imaging and regeneration. Change, as it is said, is inevitable; it is pertinent that companies adopt new strategies when needed rather than sticking with the same strategy for years even when it starts to feel uninteresting with time.
Re-branding is considered a smart business decision for the following reasons:
  •    Every brand needs refreshing to stay relevant as the 21st century market is an ever evolving one, re-branding affords companies the chance to sort out a new strategy to make their brand relevant and more importantly, remain relevant.
  •    Re-branding influences the customers perception, when a product wears a new look, or has a new feel or a company updates its marketing materials and strategies with a careful consideration of the target customer, the customer perception changes and tilts more positively.
  •    Re-branding offers the opportunity to clarify image, while allowing room for future growth this naturally improves the bottom line by conveying a company’s core value and brand message.
  •    Re-branding can breathe new life into a business when it is done with a strategy, a process, thought and most importantly for the right reasons. This will set the product or company apart from competitors.

As has been undoubtedly witnessed in the examples of companies that have re-branded, re-branding brings along with it its own basket of gifts both for the company and their customers. It must be stressed that in re-branding, corporate establishments must take the current needs and desires of their customers into consideration but still stay true to themselves as a respectable brand as seen in the example of McDonald’s.

Re-branding must also be meaningful and powerful enough that it would improve the relationship between the company and current customers as well as prospective new ones. Most importantly, companies need to rebrand to stay ahead of competition in a very competitive market where you can get left behind if you don’t keep up with the ever-growing demands of customers and the trends in the society that create such demands. This will ensure that brands don’t lose their usefulness and help them create a stronger voice for their brands.

HOW STRESS AFFECTS ACNE AND SPOTS...maintain your perfect look

www.femcaredrbrowns.com

Maintain a perfect and clean look: how stress affects acne and spots.

Physical characteristics are like a jigsaw pieces that make up each person’s appearance, the appearance itself is a conglomeration of our skin and hair colour, height, nose, eye and head shape most of these features we inherit.  One feature we did not inherit is acne, very obvious feature of most faces nowadays.

Acne is a skin ailment that affects the skin’s oil glands, the small holes in your skin (pores) connect to the oil glands. These glands make an oily substance called sebium. The pores connect to oil glands through a canal called follicle, the follicle is a passage between the skin and the oil gland when it clogs up a pimple grows. Acne is not a serious health threat but it leaves scars. An estimated 80 percent of all people between the ages of 11 and 30 have acne outbreaks at some point, although some people in their forties and fifties still get acne.

What causes Acne?

Dermatologist are not completely sure what causes acne, experts believe that the major cause is the increase in Androgen levels which happens when we become adolescent, these androgen hormone causes glands to plug up more often. Also greasy cosmetics and hormonal changes during pregnancy are all known causes. Recently experts posits that there is a strain of acne-causing bacteria living on our skin, but researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine that there are several strains which determines the frequency and severity of developing pimples. Also dairy products according to a new study published in the journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Deitics.

How does stress adds to acne?

Yes its true stress can affect acne, but how do we connect the dots... For awhile scientist had a tough time validating this theory, but recently different researches have suggested the cell that produces the oily substance (sebum) have receptors for stress hormones. Sebum is a oily substance that mixes with dead skin cells which clogs up the follicle, resulting in acne and pimples. When you are highly stressed, a lot of sebum is produced, causing a lot more acne. It is further proved that hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline can also make acne worse. Experts believe that stress only effects the productions of acne, but is  not directly a cause as researches are still going on to answer that question. In order to eliminate and limit the effect of stress, it is better one should start by improving your self confidence, organize, plan and adequately prepare for task. Also you should occasionally wash your face with clean water and try not to squeeze out pimples. Show your brave side and let your hard work do the talking. Stress free is equal to acne free.
